Hi,
I am a new rider and this is my first bike. All was going well until I hit a pothole on a left turn last week and laid the bike down. The left side got pretty messed up and I am hoping I can fix it. The problem is I am no mechanic. Currently the bike runs and drives. Also it can get up into 2nd gear even with the messed up shifter, but no higher than that. How do I fix this? Thanks.

Edit: sorry. Just looked at the photo. Couldn't tell what part of the case is cracked and of your shift shaft is bent. Can you post another photo backed away from the bike a bit?... Like a side view.
Your gear shift shaft is bent. You will need a new shaft as well as the cover and lever. But, to remove the bent shaft, it will have to be 'straightened' to a point to slide out the other side.(a long pipe over the old, bent, shaft should work for that). The shaft slides out the opposite side and is behind the clutch. The clutch will need to come out.

PM sent re: manual.
You may need to actually cut the shaft behind the bend close to the case to get it out, try straightening it first.
It is LIKELY you should replace the shift-shaft seal as well as the shaft.....
This of course presumes the main cases are undamaged........

You'll need the shift shaft and seal plus the left case cover and shifter pedal/lever
Left case cover from any manual transmission CB/CM 400/450 will fit, only difference is the number of shift positions(markings) cast into the cover. Any shift lever for the same execpt the CB450SC which is shorter. Shaft seal is the same regardless of model
Shift shaft fits theses models
