Jrobinson17 has been nice enough to let me buy his 1980 CM400T tank to replace my dented 1979. The only real issue is that he doesnt have the key so he cant ship it opened up for me. My bike is keyed to my ignition (factory) and so I was thinking I'd just take out mine and place it in his tank, but does anyone have any ideas for how to get the new tanks lock opened to swap them out? Im debating either just tanking it to a lock smith and having him either drill it out or do something, and Im also debating just hammering in a flathead and wrenching the **** out of it till it pops. Any thoughts?

The tank seems to have a few small scratches, anyone know of anybody that makes this type of red in touchup paint?

Locksmith or possibly drill but under no circumstances start hammering and prying unless you want to warp the top of the tank.

+1 on Locksmith. 4 tumbler locks are easy to pick.

I guess I wasnt very specific. I wasnt thinking of trying to pry up underneath the cover like a crowbar, I was thinking of putting a flat head bit into the lock and using a wrench to just keep torquing it till it shears the lock pins. The only thing I could think of it warping would be the cap cover. Ill probably take it to the locksmith and see what he quotes for it, if its ridiculous I may borrow a friends drill and try drilling it out. If that doesnt work, then ill go with my attempt at shearing the lock pins.

I saw that earlier, but its just so expensive to ship. Its $25 to ship a bottle of touch up. I was hoping to find something not as pricey.

Call for a quote. I have my own set of picks but it should not be overly expensive and you will have peace of mind that nothing is damaged or deformed. My 2 cents. You could just go at it with a drill as was mentioned.

The * are well known for their locks system. They must have numerous ways to deal with it. Either they remove the lock or provide a new key to open it up.
