Recently picked up a 1979 hondamatic it runs ok at low speeds but seems like it looses gas or spark at higher rpms. Any ideas? Just had the carbs rebuilt. Wondering if it could be in the advanced pick up.

Loss of spark advance is possible, you need a timing light to check it out. Fuel system issues are also a possibility, carb rebuilds are not always successful. Were they rebuilt with Honda parts?

Moved post to SOHC electrical.

Welcome to the forum. You'll need a proper Factory Service Manual. PM sent.
Also, you'll need to post pics of your new steed. There are those on the forum that can get a bit testy when they don't get their foto-fix:D:D

As said you need a FSM. The timing on the A model is not adjustable so if the advance is off it could be the alt or the cdi box. Fsm will tell you what to look for but you cant test the cdi box.

Also check the fuel supply as suggested.

The problem you are having could be caused by the torque converter. When you have a FSM follow the manual and do a stall test to check the converter.
