Hello, I'm new to the forums and recently bought a 1978 cb400 hawk for $325. The exhaust is rusty but it does run. I already bought a new oil filter as I plan to change the oil soon. I also cleaned the inside of the gas as it was rusty. I plan to turn this into a nice cafe racer style bike. I want to get new exhast pipes and wrap them, a new seat, new handlebars, and new turn signals. Right now I am in the process of painting the triple tree, foot pegs, and any thing else that is small. The one bad thing is there is no title so I have to do a little bit of work to get one. The bike does need new tires so any tips how to get new ones would be helpful. Also, tips on how to polish up the engine would be nice. Thanks!
Welcome to the forum. Great to see another 400 series here. Before you sink any money into it, get that title sorted out. Also, before you go about changing things, get a feel for it as it sits to know just what you want to change, or not.
Update on the bike, finished painting and waiting for it to dry. Should be about a week. Ordered a new mac header exhaust and that should be here by the end of the week. Getting tires on Tuesday and should be throwing those bad boys on Thursday. Going out of town this weekend so wont be able to work on the bike that much. I am going to look into getting new turn signals and headlight. The tricky part is figuring out what to do for a seat. Should I buy a cafe seat or build one myself??? I do have woodworking and metal working experience.
