Hi, i picked up this 72 cb175 and i have started to repair it. Ihave come across a problem i was hoping to get advice for. The bike starts up fine with a jump(it has a junk battery) and will idle aswell but if i try to full throttle while jumpers are off it will bogg down and will not full throttle but with the jumpers on it will full throttle. Id this just a battery issue or could it also be a rectifier issue? It has a kick start so i "assumed" it didn't need the battery persé. If i could get some advice on this i would greatly appreciate it

Hi & welcome
you need a battery. Unless someone's messed with your bikes electrics it dosent have a magneto it has an alternator
which is designed to charge the battery. The battery is used to run the electrics ( spark plugs etc)
The kick starts there to start the bike not to keep it running. The kick start turns the crank ( via cogs )no electrical output. If you could kick start the bike without a battery you wouldn't need to jump start it!
What are you trying to remedy by bringing the motor up to redline without load?

Your bike has a battery fired ignition coil..... NO battery means it won't run well......
The fact it runs well enough to idle with a dead battery indicates your re-charging system is probably good, but not sufficient to fullfill the power requirements to fire the coil at higher revs....OR, the "dead" battery could be partially recharging while it's jumped, then the bike runs until the power is depleted.....

You NEED a good battery....Your assumption is wrong.....

Thank you I'm glad to be part of these forums but i was looking to get it back in good running order. Like i said when the battery has the jumps on it would redline but with them off it would go maybe half before sputtering. I was just wanting to have it be able to throttle as much as id like without it sputtering. its not for speed but i love the sound :). So a new battery should fix the problem then?

Oh i forgot to mention what id like remedied would be the fact that with the dead battery id have to push off to go because there isn't enough throttle to go from stand still. I'm sorry if I'm not explaining this the best
