Hi all,

I have a 72 CB350 with 10 year old tires so it's well past time for an upgrade. The bike currently has a 3.00-18 front and 3.50-18 rear tire. From what I have seen the metric conversion for these would be 90/90-18 front and 100/90-18 rear. My issue is I would like to use bridgestone BT46s, I've looked at the Shinko 712 and am a little leary of the imbalance and other QC issues I've heard about on them. The front can be had in a 90/90-18 but the narrowest the rear comes in is 110/90-18. Would it be better to upsize the front to a 100/90 to match the rear being wider or use the 90/90 on the front and have a some stagger? I haven't puled the tires off and measured the rims but I think it's safe to assume they are stock width.

It's getting pretty tough to find tires that come in inch sizes so I would like to figure out a size that works well for these bikes and is easy to get. I'm open to recommendations of other tires too if anyone has had good luck with them.

I have ridden the Shinkos without issue on a CB350 and also the Duro Tires without issue and at speeds that could be expensive.

I don't put much stock in tire reviews unless it is for the specific tire on a specific machine.

Stay with the stock sizes and if anything lace a rear rim to the front but stay with the 3.00 tire. This will give you an improvement in handling. The OE front rim is barely in spec for the 3.00 tire and pinches in at that so going to the wider rim gives the best profile.

Not sure how much you are riding the bike but if you are waiting ten years to update the tires then it can't be much. Buy the freshest tires you can and replace them more often. Check the date code on the old tires ... they may be much older than ten years and check the date code on replacements, I reject anything older than 18 months after mfg.

Check out Sirius for the Duro and Fortnine for other options in Canada. Watch out for shipping charges from Sirius and the currency you are paying in. Some local shops may match internet prices.

Replace the tube and rim tape ... cheap insurance

Look into IRC GS-11 tires. They come in the inch sizing. I got them from 4into1 in a package deal with tubes, tires and rim strips.
