New to motorcycles, but I have worked on cars my whole life so I’m hoping to learn on them with this.

Just picked this up for cheap. 2000 miles on it. I cleaned out the carbs, flushed the oil, cleaned gas tank, and hooked up a new battery. Also had to hook up a new throttle cable. Started right up and all electrical works. Running and driving perfectly. But then I went to start it up again and no power. Nothing, battery tested at the correct voltage. And I also checked the main fuse and it was good. But still no power from the key , no lights or anything. I went and swapped out the battery again and still nothing. Any ideas on what this could be?
Thank you

Get a wiring diagram

You know of CMSNL.com, does this bike have an oil filter...

If it were a car ( pre ECU ) how would you go about testing, bike quite similar but far less fuses.

Enjoy.

Is the key switch turned to "on" (first click), or to "park light" (2nd click) ?

Maybe check negative ground for good connection? Near toolbox and kick start area bolted to frame, just a thought. Id go look around there near the key switch for loose wires too.

Original key? Original kill switch?

Time for your handy dandy volt ohm meter. ground the negative to the engine,,,,,not the battery then start checking voltage thru the fuse, in and out of the ignition switch, kill switch etc etc. If there is voltage everywhere then start checking for a good ground from the battery, from the head light etc etc.

Check the wiring connections to the ignition switch. Could have rattled loose.
