Hello there all,

just wanted to let you all know that I just purchased my first bike; its a 1971 cl-450 and is in decent shape. I paid $300 for it and it has had the top end of the engine rebuilt with new pistons ect... and just recently purchased new coils and a condensor for it. Its paint job is horribly amateur but standable and it doesnt look like the forks are original, all in due time. I do have a few questions to get me going though.

1. New battery- What is the battery that you guys recommend; the one that it currently has cant hold a charge

2. Favorite oil- I know these older bikes and engines love better quality gas and oil; just wondering what your thoughts were

I would like to thank you all for this website; its full of amazing info and helped in my purchase of my new bike!!

New designation: 12AA...."old": 12N12A4A1...... Any 12 volt, 12 ampere/hour battery will run the bike, it's a matter of "fitment"

As far as gas, observe Honda's comments on the 350 - you could expect the same for 450.
I always recommend getting the best gas you can find - most old Hondas appreciate it.
Though some folks report good results with 87 octane, I suspect their bikes already have low compression anyway.
Best way to know is to try it yourself.........if the bike runs better with higher octane gas, it's a no-brainer.

Non-synthetic oils are preferred for 450 - choose your favorite.....
