Hello everyone!

I have a 1967 CL77 with the longer heat shield — 5 screws instead of 4. I noticed my bike is missing the 5th screw — closest to the end of the pipes. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get a screw to stay in place as there’s no bracket. I looked at the other screws holding the heat shield and it looks like there’s a bracket that the screws go into. On my bike, it looks like it’s just a hole for the 5th screw and there’s no bracket as far as I can tell. It doesn’t feel like a bracket broke off either, so I am confused.

Any ideas how I get the heat shield to sit closer to the pipes so it doesn’t vibrate and crack? I already see one small crack and am worried it’ll get worse if I don’t get it sorted. I’m starting to think I may need to do something wonky like safety wire it.

Appreciate any insights that you can provide. Thank you in advance!

Here are photos of the exhaust and the missing screw:

IIRC, it was as the other four are, on the top of the lower pipe/between the two pipes........
You could weld a nut to a short piece of strap and hold it atop the pipe unobtrusively with a stainless band (radiator hose) clamp...

Thanks, 66Sprint. I discovered my bike has the earlier pipes, so it does not actually have a bracket to attach the 3rd screw. Now I am looking for the shorter heat shield B to fit to my bike. It seems like the front heat shield A is a bit easier to find.

If you still have the longer heat shield and don't need it I sure would buy it from [email protected]
