  1. Engine Discussion
I have searched this topic on the forum and haven't found the cure, yet. So I am starting a new thread in hopes that one of you gurus can set me straight. I am working on a 1971 CL450, with approx. 13k miles, that has a very high idle. It will sometimes start and idle at a reasonable level, but...
  2. Frame, Suspension and Steering
Today I'd like to put the motor back in to my CL450. I have the service manual (thanks to HondaTwins members for that) and it says put the motor in from the left side in. It doesn't say much more than that other than how to fit the ground cable on (do I need to sand off the powdercoat where...

  5. Project Logs
So here she is. picked up for $600. What do you guys think for what it is? Definitely needs some attention. and has 11K on it. I'd like to get the mechanics going well before I start customizing into the badass scrambler I envision. Fires up with the starter but carbs need cleaning and sync...

See image below. Keep in mind, it's just the right cylinder. The left cylinder plug is good. AND I checked compression just after pulling this and it was 160psi so I'm hoping there is no damage to the piston/walls in this cylinder causing oil to enter the combustion chamber... Thanks!
  9. Bikes For Sale
I have a 1968 Honda Scrambler cl450k1 in South Jersey with a clear New Jersey Title. It has sat with indoors for over ten years drained. Prior to this I installed new tires and it ran nice. The speedometer and tachometer cluster were from a different motorcycle when I obtained it. So the true...

Hey Everybody, I've been using this website enough that I figured I should probably actually become a member and join the club. I'm a new motorcycle rider. I've started a little later than probably most of the people here (age 29). At the beginning of the summer, I purchased a 1972 Honda CL...

  13. Fuel Supply and Carburation
1969 CL450 with Keihin carbs. Starts, idles and runs fine. However, when trying to adjust the carbs, turning the idle air bleed screw on the right carb has no effect, even going from totally screwed in to almost falling out. The same screw on the left carb adjusts normally. Could it be an air...

I figured I ought to create an account considering how much I have been referencing and using the collective wisdom of the boards here. I recently bought a 1973 CL450 K4 off of craigslist. It had been sitting in storage for a number of years, but the seller had it up and running in order to...
  15. Fuel Supply and Carburation
I'm new to my bike and just opened the air cleaner case covers for the 1st time. The bottom of the filters (foam Uni filters) have a fair amount of oil in the bottom. Is this normal? Should I be cleaning the filters out on a regular basis? Not sure if it matters but it's on both sides. Much...

Gang, just signing on here. I am new to motorcycles in general and have been an owner of my 72 CL450 for almost a year. I'm in love. I have a hard time riding in cars now-a-days and spend my time daydreaming of long distance trips on 2 wheels. Look forward to learning from you all as I restore...
  17. Electrical Discussion
I just picked up a 1970 CL450 and it's having an issue with the taillight that I'm trying to figure out.. The taillight comes on when the key is in the park position and when the bike is running without the headlight on, but anytime I turn the headlight on, the taillight turns off. Also, the...
