    Hardtail and fender.

How much space do I need between my tire on a hardtail frame and rear fender

All you need is to clear the tire. I just set them up to where they look good over the tire and have enough room for the tire to clear when adjusting the chain.

Seeing as your set clearance should only change at higher speeds when your tire's shape changes... I'd say 1/2" to 3/4" just like a stock front fender.

I hope the city streets where you live are not full of pot holes and cracks. You're going to feel every bit of that on a hardtail. Trust me on that.
