Looking For A New Stator! Honda CB Infamy.

Hey everyone! I have a Honda CB400A. And lucky for me, my CDI unit went out. As you all know, the CDI units on these bikes are famous for going out.

So I’m getting a new one.

The only problem is that new CDI’s for this bike are incredibly hard to find. And IF you happen to stumble across one online, it’s going to run you a few hundred bucks.

I saw on another post from this site that if you replace your CDI with one from another bike, you can also replace your stator and flywheel, and everything will run smoothly.

I would need a stator from either a:

    CB400T
    CB450T
    CM400T

If anyone knows where I could find a stator from one of these bikes, or if someone knows someone I could contact that’d be willing to sell theirs, it’d be a HUGE help.

I believe in you! Thank you so much!

There is a sticky on the 400as in the elec section also a post covering this in the 400 section.

Look up Custom Rewind on the net You might find a rewound stator that will fit your needs.

This CDI is for the manual trans models, won't work for the A model.
Now in converting to the manual CDI system it would be a good option. OP just needs a stator and rotor for any of the manual trans models.
Here's the info for Custom Rewind

Are you sure, Jim? My understanding is that the electrics were more or less the same, aside from the gear indicators on the A model.

Unfortunately I'm sure. The A model was built by NipponDenso instead of Hitachi. A couple more wires involved for the timing switch from neutral to in gear plus different primary pulsar pickup. Sucks because no one is making a replacement CDI for the A while there are supplier options for the manuals. Maybe you want to investigate producing one?

On the A model the stater wont work if the bike is in gear, the side stand switch wont allow the motor to run when down if the bike is in gear and the timing is changed from 7.5 degrees to 15 degrees when the bike is put in gear. All this is controlled from the CDI with a signal from the change switch for the starter and the change switch rely for the side stand and timing.

Hmmm... If I had a running 400A I could probably work something out.
