The S800 Honda sports car although off the bike topic(but in the last article) was a fantastic car.I was lucky enough to own one of these back in 1968.The rage in the UK at that time was the Mini Cooper S but wow did that honda go, about the same as an MGC upto about 70mph.With the revs on you could never hear the radio or the girlfriend asking you to slow down mind you the four carbs took a bit of balancing and the starter motor was a bit alkward at times but I think honda knew that as they also supplied a starting handle. Sold mine for £140.00

    Hi Chris
I left School in 70 after realising I was not going to pass A levels and took a job as an apprentice draughtsman a a structural engineers £32-0s-0d per month , not much inflation since 65 then not like now
I believe that it was an exchange rate of 4$US to the 1£ then, when the £ was actually worth something
    Hey ho

Hey Chris I didnt know the Germans had digital Cameras in 65

    Re: Honda CB450 Dragon.

Many apologies Chris, I have only just picked up this thread. Lots of good info and history posted especially on the launch of the Black Bomber in the UK. Strangely enough, I can remember a lot of this from the good old days (but like most "old" people I cant remember what happened yesterday!)

I recall 2 adverts in the early launch material describing the new CB450 as the Dragon, but one of them described it as the Red Dragon. Just checked some of the early adverts and not yet found it. When I do, I will post a copy here. That leads on to there being a colour choice of CB450s, but mainly in Canada where the choice was Black or Red. You can still get the colour chart on Ebay from a Canadian seller with the Black and Red colour scheme options shown.

Had already checked the numbers in the early mags, and none of them are mine.

    Keep up the good work!

    You will never believe this.
I was in the second year of my apprenticeship (as a vehicle mechanic) when the magazine came out.
I remember our college lecturer displaying the diagrams of the torsion bar valve system on a screen with an episcope (remember them), and us going into a great debate about how that was the way togo.
In those days we could only dream of owning a honda of any size, we were earning £3.00 per week.
I was running a Philips Gadabout moped and my mate had just been bought an Enfield Crusader.
Happy days and thanks for the memories.

I am coming to this late but it's way cool! An excellent post.

hmmm, in 1966 I was 9 yrs old and my biggest headache daily was milking the cow and on weekends mucking out the barn. didn't get my first bike until I was 13 and I always liked the look of the 450's and it's taken me until my 50's to finally, finally, get one! (er...2 as one was a donor for parts)
