    Trying to get info on 1972 CB450

    Could some of you more knowledgeable experienced CB 450 owners explain to me something? I was searching the forums here under the 450's looking to find info on my newly acquired 72 CB450 and found a link that showed pic's and model # after the K for the year. Also were characteristics of each model year. Well I was under the impression that all these CB450's were all double overhead cam motors, hence the badge on the side covers. Well it stated that prior to 72 they were dohc 2 valves per cyl but in 72 they changed to sohc,3 valve per cyl 360 ( with a symbol that appeared to be ? inside a diamond but perhaps it was supposed to be a degree mark ) crank w/ twin balance shafts? Right up to 74 they wore the 450 DOHC badge on the side cover. Is there a tech article somewhere that would explain the differences? Thanks

    All CB450's from prior to 1982 you mean.

    The DOHC 450's were made from 1965 to 1974. The CB500T were followed from 1975-1976.

    As far as I know the 3 valves CB450SC was not made until 1982. This is a completely different animal altogether and shares no similarities with the earlier 450's at all, well other than it has 2 wheels LOL

    Yours should be a K5, and the frame serial number should begin 'CB450-50xxxxx'. The badge on the side covers, over the air cleaners, changed from year to year.

    ^^^the only thing that might be different than above is if the bike was sold new late in the model year and was titled the following year, a practice that was widely done in the Honda industry back then. I worked for a Honda dealer when I bought my CL450K4 and the dealership office held the paperwork until after September 1st that year so it would be a '72 when it was actually a '71. as Rick said, the frame number will tell the true story - normally a '72 would be a K5

    The info on Motorera is sometimes incorrect - this is one of those cases.

    Yeah, Rizingson says the Honda ID Guide is not always correct either, but I'd believe it before a website not affiliated with Honda

    TBPmusic, yes that is where I got that info. So all 450's till 74 were the same more or less?
