    I need sage advice

    I acquired what I thought would be an almost complete 72 CL350, I sort of did, but it was totally dissembled. The guy who sold me the parts had cannibalized the bike to complete another bike. Most of the major components are there, except the speedo and tac, gas tank, dash lights and carbs. In addition he threw in some extra CL350 and some CB350 parts in order to clean out his workshop. In CL350 I now have a motor, frame, 2 handlebars, 3 swing arms and parts, 2 battery boxes, 2 sets of forks, two triple trees, headlight bucket, 2 sets handlebar controls, mirrors, 4 wheels, a lot of wiring handle bar mounts, and other stuff. Since I am new at restoration, I mean realllly new, I've decided that I do not have the skill level to do this restoration. I have decided to sell the parts in order to fund my two bike restorations 74 KZ400 and a 72 CB450.

    Here comes the part where I need the sage advise. The CL motor that I have turns over by the kick start but thats all I know, I have no way of testing it so is there a market for an untested motor or would I be bettter to sell off parts? The CL frame is not symmetrical in the engine cradle area. The bottom two tubes that the engine rests on are not parallel, the right side bulges out more than the left, Ive been looking for photos that would show the frame from the right angle to show if this is normal or not. I have two front fenders, one bracket has a flat bottom on it and the other has a diagonal bottom. Trying to match the pictures and years on eBay leads to the conclusion that they are both 71's and both are 72's. I'm sure the answer is here somewhere.

    Last but not least is it proper forum etiquette to offer the parts to members on this forum first before you put them on eBay.

    Your frame is correct, not to worry. CL and CB frames are the same thing.

    Absolutely acceptable. That's where a lot of projects get the needed pieces. There's a Parts For Sale section, https://www.hondatwins.net/forums/27-parts-sale , all we ask is price and location however a picture and good description are good to include.

    Why do you think you don't have the skill for this project? The only way to get the skill is to do the project. Everyone on this forum had to start somewhere. I get where you are at. I've had three projects going for the last 9 years. One of the things I have learned is not to buy everything in sight. Now I have two great running bikes and there will be another before next spring.

    Your absolutely right in what you said, how else do you get the experience but to do the actual work. But like you did, this is my third bike I bought in two months and I have never done a restoration before.

    I have a completely dissembled 74 KZ400 in my garage that I took apart and kept photos of the disassembly as well as bagging and tagging everything, that bike I am pretty confident that I can fix, repaint and put back together, the CL I am not so sure of.

    Once I've learned on my KZ I will move to my true goal which is the 72 CB450.

    So you have a pair of twins, KZ400 and CL350. The only significant difference between working on either one is the engine assembly, other than that the suspension, brakes, basic electrical, etc. works the same. At least with the CL you have the knowledge base here on the forum to help you out.

    ^^^and if the 350 seems daunting to you, the CB450 will have its own differences and learning curve... but as Jim said, the knowledge base here will be able to help you with both
