    What's wrong with this center stand?

    It looks like someone added some extra brackets as a physical stop to prevent the center stand from hitting the chain.
    I'm assuming on the center stand itself is a piece that stops itself?
    Also I'm assuming that tube doesn't go there...

    EDIT: figured it out. my cb350 has cl350 exhausts and according this post the stop was built into the exhaust. the CL has a separate tab on the center stand that stops on the frame.

    My new to me 1971 CL350's chain rubs on the centre stand. I'll have to get under it and check for some kind of stop tab.

    A correct center stand for the CL Model looks like this:

    Note the TAB in the middle of the mounting bolt tube.
