    Should I buy? '74 CL200

Hey all, I'm new to the Honda Twins forum but am fairly active over at the CX500 forum (I own a 1982 GL500).

So, I don't want to bore you too much, but I am fairly mechanically inclined person and have worked on a 1980 CX500, 1982 GL500, and 1982 Suzuki GS650E. As you can tell, I like older bikes and enjoy working on them!

Right now I'm looking to sell my GL500 and possibly pickup another bike. One that I came across a few days ago on the old Craigslist is what looks like a 1974 CL200. The VIN plate says it was made 10/73 but it's got the high pipes and looks like an exact match to the CL200 Scrambler, which my research tells me was only made in 1974.

Semantics aside, I'm looking for a little feedback about the bike. This one in-particular is in fairly rough shape, I'm almost sure the engine is seized and there is a decent amount of rust...BUT the kicker is that the guy only want's $175 for the bike, and it seems like it's all there. Mileage is around 8,000 miles.

Are these fun bikes to ride? I'm in an area where I would mostly use this as a little downtown/backroad kicker, but could also get onto some dirt roads if possible. Is it at all capable as a an off-roader? Are they easy to work on? Are parts still fairly accessible? Does it basically run the same parts as a CB200?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thinking about going to take a look tomorrow! I mean, $175...!

Just like automobiles, anything manufactured in September or later is a "next model year" vehicle....... So, YES, it is a '74 model......

IF it comes with a valid title, buy it....without one, it's a $50 pile of parts that just resembles a bike.......

Yes many parts are the same as the CB 200......

The CB/CL 200's are about as much pure fun to ride as any bike I've ever been on.
Quick, light, and nimble, they're a joy to ride.

I agree, 95% of the bike shares the parts with the CB200. Regarding the title, if it doesnt have one, there are ways to get one pretty easy depending on what state you are in. For example, Indiana is very easy to get a title.

I don't know what Indiana you live in - the one I live in does NOT make it easy, and it's usually ill-advised to get an untitled bike.
