    Tachometer Oil Seal Removal........help

So I am a novice Honda Twin tinkerer............

oil coming out of tach cable......googled tachometer oil seal, found it, bought from 4 into 1 for $8. Screw for tach came out easy......thinking this is going to be easy........it just slides right in with a socket about the same size as the hole.......easy enough until.......

How do i get the old seal out? Its way back in there........is there any way to do it without having to take other parts off?

    Joel

If the 360 is similar to the 175/200 tacho drive, this may help.

Grasp the tacho drive pinion with fine nosed pliers and pull the whole assembly straight out, including all the washers on the shaft. Fit the new seal with plenty of oil, then press the assembly back into place using a suitable size deep socket. See last post in this thread:

I'm not sure as I've never replaced the tach seal on a 360, but the fiche appears to show a set ring that might go in a groove in the collar over the shaft that might prevent pulling the shaft to remove the seal

Probably have to pull the top motor mount and then the top cover off the engine to do it

Did you ever get this sorted out? How did you get the seal removed?

I had a lot of jobs done on my CL360 recently by a local guy and this was one of them. I know he removed the cylinder head to do it...

I'm getting ready to do this on my sons bike. Found a video...the guy used dental picks to remove a seal from a 750. It was pretty recessed. I can't tell in Joel's #6 post how deep the seal is but I'm hoping it'll be as easy as the guy in the video.

    EDIT:

Definitely no need to remove the cover...a few whacks of the impact driver backed the screw out. Picked up a pick set from Horrible Freight...took about 2 seconds to reach into the well & pull the seal out.
