    The post is spot on.
"70’s and 80’s UJM (Universal Japanese Motorcycle) - Nice guys, kinda dorks. Will wave at everyone."
I so resemble that remark. When I ride my '86 Nighthawk S, I wave at other sport bikes but not Harley's. Most HD riders down here are total posers. Some HD riders wave at me first because they know my bike is 35 years old and still going. Respect.

I personally will wave to all even the scooters. Hell if they're brave to get on those things going at speed then it's all good.

Besides... Some scooters can be very attractive,, Just saying.

    The “wave”

Exactly. Now, I do ride a Harley, and give the wave or nod to anything on two wheels. But when on either Honda, it’s like the Harley riders radar identifies a foreign bike and they don’t bat an eye. However, if a big bad biker with a doo-rag under his brain bucket helmet pulls up next to me on either small Honda, they do look, and almost always comment, especially the Scrambler, because they’re old enough to remember them or they’ve owned one at some point in their youth. Actually, I think I have a better wave average from Harley riders than I do on guys that ride their ninja CR’s...but now that I think of it, they’re usually passing me at near mach speeds, so maybe that explains it.

I wave to any scooter that is over 50cc, thus requiring a motorcycle license and registration. 50cc and under are rented here by tourists who have no clue how to operate them, they get killed and maimed every year. They require no license, inspection, reg and the parasites that rent them out couldn't care less about the ignorant saps they send out on the roads as long as they get the money.

You just reminded me seeing a young lady kneeling by her bike, a CG125 type Chinese clone; gently tapping the starter motor with a piece of brick. "That's what the bike shop told me to do to get it started" she said. It started too. I always wave if I see her. Did offer to change the Starter motor brushes for her too, but she said her dad would do that for her one day. (Waving hand emoji)....

I find the whole waving thing a bit weird to be honest, especially when it seems to be based purely on the bike you are riding. Since I find it strange, I gave up initiating waves but will wave back if someone waves at me (unless its a cruiser rider wearing one of those German army style helmets or skull handkerchiefs over their face). Its amusing to see the different behaviours depending on which of my bikes I'm riding. With my vintage ones I get the most waves, slightly less with my modern ADV bikes and by far the least when I'm on my MB5 (they just tend to stare, lol). The list posted in the first link is pretty spot on for where I live.
