    CL350 valve clearance

Perhaps a dumb question, but can the valve gap decrease over time? My assumption (fwiw) was that they would widen rather than close. My left intake was nearly 0 thousandths... The exhaust was roughly .003 as well.

It depends on the type of valve train whether the valves get looser or tighter as they wear. On the CB 350, they will get tighter as the valve and seat wear. However, I would guess that they were not adjusted correctly.

I did a lot of 500 mile checkups on new Hondas back then. It was pretty common to find valve adjustment closed up and needing to be readjusted.

Well, you're probably right on that they were not done correctly last time. This was my first time doing the valves myself on this 350. Will just do it myself from now on. Thanks for the explanation - appreciated.

Honda sent out a service bulletin that first summer about changing the valve adjustment specs on the 350s. Intake and exhaust were too tight, leading to idle quality problems. I forget what the original published specs were. We reset the valves to .003" and .005", as per the bulletin, right out of the crate and had no problems.

I want to say they were .002" and .004" IIRC
